Ballistic / Kevlar
Helmets Overview Page
|
Kevlar Helmets offer good ballistic protection from Fragmentation
and most pistol caliber threats which is why you see most military
and SWAT teams in helmets. An even more common reason for helmets
is blunt trauma protection from impact with walls, vehicles, clubs,
fists, etc., etc.
But
please be aware that your head is much more susceptible to blunt
trauma than your body. ANY impact of a bullet on a helmet WILL
CAUSE INJURY AND CAN CAUSE DEATH. You put the odds more in your
favor with head protection, but (as with ANY armor) no guarantee
of invulnerability can be made.
Of course
blunt trauma is usually preferable to the alternative! If
you don't have the ACH blunt trauma pad system we strongly recommend
that you upgrade your helmet with our Foam
Impact Liner to bring blunt trauma protection closer to the
latest mil-spec - best solution is to retrofit the ACH
blunt trauma pad system

When comparing weights please be aware that we quote ACTUAL
weights for a normal male size Medium, ready to wear. We do NOT
play the "weight loss" games you may encounter elsewhere,
such as quoting the weight of an unrealistic Small size. Ask to
have the helmet you are going to buy weighed ready to wear - in

Stops penetration
of Level II
threats
Military PASGT
helmets have been tested by an H.P. White certified lab for V-50
Fragmentation, and to stop penetration of the rounds used for
NIJ Level II tests: e.g., 9 mm FMJ, at ~1,175 fps (~358 mps)
V-50
is a mil-spec standard for ballistic protection at which 50% of
projectiles are stopped, and 50% penetrate. For helmets, V-50
generally refers to Fragmentation, NOT bullets.
- V-50
of 2,150 fps (655 mps) is better than mil-spec for the US
Army PASGT Helmet! (MIL-STD-662E is 2,000 fps minimum (609 mps)
- ~3.5 lbs
(1.6 kg.)
- we supply
this helmet with the most secure suspension 3-point
quick-release chin strap system plus foam top doughnut and back
pad for the most comfortable and secure fit

Foam Impact
Liner Upgrade
Greatly increase
blunt trauma protection
with this specially designed ~1/4" (6 mm) dense foam. Covers
~75% of the inside of your Helmet.
Also known
as the Parachutist Impact Liner, or PIL this upgrade is documented
to significantly reduce blunt trauma forces, almost as well as
the ACH / MICH pad system - see Blunt
Impact Performance
We strongly
recommend that you upgrade whatever helmet you choose (or
already have) to maximize blunt trauma protection.
(Not needed
with the ACH pad system.)

Helmet Sizing
|
Measure the
circumference around your forehead with a cloth tape measure
(or a belt and a ruler).
Be sure to
measure:
-
SNUGLY
- pull that tape measure snug !
-
above
the eyebrow ridge
-
head up straight, and
-
keep
the tape measure roughly parallel to the ground
-
take
the widest forehead circumference measurement you get
when the tape is SNUG.
-
it
helps to look in the mirror to check your measuring
